Quick answer: for thick, coarse or curly hair choose the Omega (1" titanium, up to 446°F) or, for long hair, the Nova 2". For fine, color-treated or fragile hair choose the Bionic Pro Ceramic. If you want straight styles, waves and curls that set as you go, choose the Infrared Breeze Air Styler Pro. For bangs and travel, a portable straightener is easier to control.
All of these irons glide better on clean, completely dry hair with a heat protectant. Start on the lowest setting that works for your hair and only go higher if a section needs it.

Choose by hair type
Thick, coarse, curly or textured hair
Titanium plates heat efficiently and hold their temperature, so you need fewer passes. The Omega has 1-inch floating titanium plates with rounded edges for straightening, silk presses, curls and waves, and heats up to 446°F (230°C). The 1" Hybrid Pro pairs floating titanium plates with a ceramic heater. Work in sections of about an inch and glide slowly with a comb guiding the hair just ahead of the plates.
Long or very dense hair
Wider plates cover more hair per pass. The Nova 2" has 2-inch floating titanium plates and adjustable digital temperature up to 450°F, and it is dual voltage. The Quantum adds a digital LCD so you can repeat your exact setting.
Fine, thin, color-treated or fragile hair
Ceramic plates give gentle, even heat. The Bionic Pro Ceramic Flat Iron has floating ceramic plates, a rounded design for waves and curls, and adjustable heat up to 450°F. On fine hair, stay on low to medium settings. Our temperature guide explains where to start.
Short hair, bangs and pixie cuts
A narrow tool reaches close to the root and is easier to control. Try the 0.9" Ceramic Portable Straightener or, for small curls and bends, the Mini Curler. See best tools for short hair.
One tool for sleek styles, waves and curls
The Infrared Breeze Air Styler Pro combines floating tourmaline-ceramic plates with cooling air vents that help set each section, has four settings (320°F, 360°F, 390°F and 430°F), auto shut-off and dual voltage. It is made for dry hair.
Not sure you need a flat iron?
If you want softer, natural-looking straightness with more volume, a heated straightening comb such as the Pro Glider 1.0 (300°F to 450°F) or Pro Glider 2.0 (fixed 392°F) may suit you. To dry and straighten in one step on towel-dried hair, see the Air Glide hot air straightener (110V, US outlets). Compare them in straightening brush vs. flat iron.

Frequently asked questions
Which Straight Ahead flat iron is best for thick hair?
For thick, coarse or curly hair, the Omega (1-inch floating titanium plates, up to 446°F / 230°C) and, for long hair, the Nova 2" (2-inch floating titanium plates) cover hair efficiently in fewer passes. The 1" Hybrid Pro is another titanium option.
Which flat iron is best for fine or color-treated hair?
The Bionic Pro Ceramic Flat Iron. Its floating ceramic plates give gentle, even heat, and adjustable heat lets you stay on low to medium settings.
Which Straight Ahead flat irons are dual voltage?
The Omega, the Nova 2" and the Infrared Breeze Air Styler Pro are confirmed dual voltage (110–240V). For other irons, check the rating label or email cs@straightaheadbeauty.com. Never use a voltage converter.
Can I curl my hair with a flat iron?
Yes. Irons with rounded edges, such as the Omega and the Bionic Pro, and the Infrared Breeze Air Styler Pro, can create curls, waves and bends: twist the iron as you glide through a small section.
What temperature should I use?
Start low and only go higher if your hair needs it: lower settings for fine or color-treated hair, higher for thick or coarse hair. Always use a heat protectant.
Do Straight Ahead flat irons have a warranty?
Yes. Bought new from our website or an authorized retailer, they are covered by our Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects for as long as you, the original customer, own them. Register within 14 days of purchase.
